James Joyce’s Dubliners and Nataliia Kobrynska’s Galicians: Concurrences, Mirrorings and Differences

This article analyses the short stories by writers of late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Irishman James Joyce Ukrainian writer Nataliia Kobrynska. The research investigates typological similarities differences authors’ concept a human being based on images inhabitants Dublin (Joyce) Galicia (Kobrynska). There is distinctive duality material world in writers; it aimed both at reproducing reality ‘Dublin’ ‘Galician’ space, as well its symbolisation. for topos unfulfilled dreams, ‘the centre paralysis’ disappointments. Its experience moment enlightenment that highlights their loneliness, alienation, inability to find or preserve national, religious, personal identity. Similarly, against background realistically portrayed social environment Kobrynska’s unfold complex psychodramas characters: destruction family conflict generations, confrontation village city, fate women patriarchal society, awakening countryman’s national political awareness, formation civic culture philosophy altruism, helplessness during technological progress.
